“I have an International Student Insurance policy and I live in Christchurch. My

property has been damaged by the earthquake. What can I claim for?

If your property was damaged by the Christchurch Earthquake which occurred on the

22nd February 2011, you must firstly submit your claim with the New Zealand Earthquake

Commission (EQC). If there is any monetary difference that is not covered by the New

Zealand Earthquake Commission, then you may submit a claim with us if you have a

Student Max plan, or have specified a personal item on your Student Essentials plan.

If you do claim for damaged property, you must provide all supporting documents, including

any documents received by you, by the New Zealand Earthquake Commission. If your

claim is accepted, the applicable excesses will be deducted from the paid amount.

The International Student Insurance policy does not provide cover for any damage to Motor

Vehicles.

I have an International Student Insurance policy and I live in Christchurch. My school

has been damaged by the earthquake. What can I claim for?

There is provision to claim for a flight back to your home country as well as telephone calls,

accommodation and meals in respect of such travel, under the Curtailment/Resumption of

Journey benefit under Section 3 of your policy, if your school has been severely damaged

by the earthquake, or has been cordoned off by officials, providing you purchased your

policy prior to 1pm, Tuesday 22nd February 2011.

If you already hold a return ticket back to your home country, you must contact your travel

agent or airline/s and apply for a date-change of your ticket in the first instance. In the event

your ticket is not able to be changed, please apply for a refund, and this amount will be

deducted from the cost of a new ticket. Please submit your claim with all supporting

documentation for consideration.

There is no cover for the flight back to New Zealand if you are not resuming your studies.

I have an International Student Insurance policy and I am unable to continue my

studies because of the earthquake. Can I claim for the loss of my student fees?

There is provision to claim for the loss of your non-refundable student fees if you are unable

to continue your studies in New Zealand as a result of the earthquake, providing you

purchased your policy prior to 1pm, Tuesday 22nd February 2011.

You must firstly contact your education provider and the Ministry of Education to seek a

refund of your student fees. If there is any monetary difference that is not covered by your

education provider or the Ministry of Education, then you may submit a claim with us.

If you do claim for the loss of your non-refundable student fees, you must provide all

supporting documents, including any documents received by you from your education

provider and the Ministry of Education.

Please note: This advice must be used in conjunction with your policy wording”
