In the last week, a student from Samoa graduated from our college!! A first for Canterbury College!!

Did you know?…

* The climate of the Samoan islands is tropical. It is hot, humid, and often rainy. Earthquakes and typhoons are very frequent.

* Samoans love to sing, and many of them have a talent for music. Samoan folk songs tell stories of love, patriotism, and important events. Choirs and brass bands are also popular.

* “Tofa” means “good-bye”, “tama” means “boy”, and “teine” means “girl”. Samoan is a Polynesian language. It is not spoken anywhere else in Polynesia, but is similar to Maori, Tongan, Hawaiian, and Tahitian. The Samoan alphabet has only five vowels and nine consonants.
